Meet Emmie: A Soldier’s Best Friend

Emerson Elaine Eskridge the Superdog was born in Louisville, KY on June 19th, 2007.

She is the smallest of the six original and distinct breeds of dog from Japan called Shiba Inu (??).

She is a small, agile dog that copes very well with mountainous terrain and trails. Emmie has an abundance of energy. She loves to run, play catch, and hunt small animals. There is never a dull moment when she is around!

Emmie has a thick coat, especially during the winter. Her safety is a main concern from the crew during very hots days. If temperatures rise then Emmie will take it nice and easy by riding in the RV that follows SPC Yocum. Of course she can’t stand this. She always wants to be out front to lead the hike. We sometimes think that she was born for the purpose of hiking across America!

Emmie is proud to announce that she is certified as an Honorary Penny’s From Heaven Soldiers’ Angel Support Dog!

PENNY’S FROM HEAVEN FOUNDATION is an elite group of well-trained, exceptional working therapy dogs, leaving paw prints in healthcare facilities and lives. Their therapy dogs provide services to our returning wounded servicemen and women, children testifying to sexual and physical abuse, hospice patients, children’s hospitals, adult hospitals, the court house, retirement homes, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, bone marrow transplant clinics, and these therapy dogs are present at our soldier’s deployments and Yellow Ribbon ceremonies. They are often the silver lining in hostile places and faces.

Emmie has a special role as she walks across America: to help spread joy to many soldiers and their familes and she is ready for the challenge!

Three Dog Bakery is proud to sponsor Emmie on her hike across America for Military Families in need.  They will supply her with the food and the treats she needs to endure the 7000 mile/16 month long Hike for our Heroes! Emmie says “ARF,  thanks to all the people at Three Dog for making this happen.”
